The sound on this album is again chanson, the music of the French café culture. This is a winner with 2 thumbs way up.Following the successful French Café compilation, Putumayo here updates the French sound, but in a tricky way. This place pays attention to the details and that is why it has been one of the city's best restaurants for nearly 60 years. We did not take any food photos because it was a bit too high class for me to be schlepping photos at the table, but I wish I had so you could see how pretty each dish looked. We also had the Crepes Flamed Orange medallions with Grand Marnier which were very good. We had both the pistachio and the grand Marnier and both was super good. For dessert you cannot go wrong with any of the soufflés.

She had the lobster Raviolis with the Bruere Blanc sauce which is a light white sauce full of flavors. We had the mushroom which was really good and filling even though it was as light as a cloud. For the main courses you cannot go wrong with the HUGE soufflés'. Also love the smoked salmon blini with caviar which was delicate and flavorful. For great apps we suggest the figs with prosciutto which is sliced thicker than in other joints and makes it taste great, also loved the artichoke heart carpaccio (thinly sliced and yummy) with poached qual eggs. Lots of famous people were there and the place was packed. Dinner was superb, the room is beautiful and very romantic, everyone was dressed to the nines (men be sure to wear a jacket and you will feel most comfortable with a tie, ladies dress to impress). All in all, we felt it was not a good use of money and not a place we would ever dine again or recommend to others, but this could well be a matter of preference in a fine dining experience rather than a specific knock on the restaurant.ġst class all the way!!! WOW what a great experience.

Dining area was very beautiful but old school / a bit dated. Thus, we had to flag down waiter to get up to use the bathroom and disturb all the patrons by yanking out a heavy table. Very beautiful restaurant, though the seating set up was odd in that you had to physically move the heavy tables to get out of your side-by-side seating. The food was fine but it was extremely overpriced - we wanted to have a very nice date night but did not expect to pay $70 for an entree that was a very small amount of lobster and four pieces of noodle. Could very well be coincidence, and I want to reiterate that all servers were perfectly pleasant throughout the evening, but he did not feel at ease and felt that he was not their targeted patron. Service was very pleasant but worth noting there was not a single person of color dining in the restaurant besides my partner, which was jarring and a first for us in a city as diverse as NYC. Now we have to call the restaurant and maybe our credit card company. and then billed us for the entire meal anyway.

And they also billed my credit card $100 each person to keep the reservation 2 days ago. But for $450 for a couple, including tip, the experience was not worth the cost. Why bother having prices and calling it A La Carte if the minimum requires all the most expensive items? Wait staff was friendly, food was very good. For a 3 course meal that basically meant you needed to order the most expensive item in each category to meet the minimum. When we got there, the menu stated that there was a MINIMUM of $151 per person for A La Carte. We had called ahead to confirm it was A La Carte and they confirmed. Sat for at least 10 minutes until we got a menu. There was a piano player, which was nice. Reservation was booked almost 2 months ago so there was no excuse for this. We were put on the top floor in the back where you can't see the beautiful holiday decor. This is our 2nd time at La Grenouille and it was quite disappointing.
